Rapping About a World at Risk

Fundamentalist Politics in Nevada

Political operatives  circulate this photo in an attempt to taint the reputation of candidates running  for office in highly contested elections.  It has surfaced again in the Nevada Senate  election  campaign of Harry Reid and Sharron Angle.

I recently received an e-mail with this lovely image. The e-mail states that this is a photo that captures the 1889 public execution of Remus Reid for horse stealing and other crimes in the Montana  Territory Prison.  Remus is an ancestor of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.  Mr. Reid is running for reelection and is locked in a campaign battle with Teabagger darling Republican Sharron Angle.

The e-mail stated that a professional genealogy researcher (read: political hack) discovered this photo and asked Harry Reid if he cared to comment on it.  Mr. Reid’s reply maddened the author of the e-mail, stating that Mr. Reid’s reply is a typical example of his Bull Shit.  To quote the e-mail on this disingenuous genealogical inquiry:

“Believe it or not, Harry Reid’s staff sent back the following biographical sketch for her genealogy research:

“Remus Reid was a famous cowboy in the Montana Territory. His business empire grew to include acquisition of valuable equestrian assets and intimate dealings with the Montana railroad. Beginning in 1883, he devoted several years of his life to government service, finally taking leave to resume his dealings with the railroad. In 1887, he was a key player in a vital investigation run by the renowned Pinkerton Detective Agency. In 1889, Remus passed away during an important civic function held in his honour when the platform upon which he was standing collapsed.”

NOW THAT’s how it’s done, Folks! That’s real POLITICAL SPIN, or typical Reid “BS”

The real BS of this story comes from Sharron Angle and her political propagandists.  This Teabagging wind bag asserts that she has been anointed by God to save Nevada and the Union from socialists, liberals and terror loving anti-Americans (read democrats).  God officially came out for Ms. Angle’s candidacy a few weeks ago.  Not surprising since Jesus Christ has been the unofficial head of the GOP since at least the Reagan Administration.  The breaking news of God’s endorsement of Sharron Angle was scooped by that hard hitting team of journalists at the 700 Club.  You can see the story here:

Interesting this deeply Christian women says nothing about repealing gambling or legalized prostitution in her state or ending the wars but will make it her first order of business if elected to repeal the health care bill that extends coverage to all citizens.  Curious that God would direct this deeply religious woman to deny health care to the poor and give a free pass to the wealthy riding their camels through the golden eye of the needle.  Somehow I don’t think Ms. Angle’s positions are something that Jesus would support.

To make a point of righteous indignation, we get Ms. Angle circulating photos of a public hanging of Mr. Reid’s ancestor.  I don’t believe Jesus would approve of this either but Ms. Angle no doubt knows a side of Jesus Christ I have yet to discover.  So Mr. Reid responds with some amusing political satire to the inanities of Rovian inspired Teabagger politics and the point becomes the political spin of Mr. Reid.

I imagine Ms. Angle is trying to hold Mr. Reid accountable for the crimes of a distant ancestor that was dead before he was born.  Theologically this is not very Christian of Ms. Angle.  According to Jesus everyone is responsible for their own salvation.  The sins of my father and great great uncles may be visited upon me but I am not responsible nor accountable for those sins.  Christianity teaches people are active agents in their own salvation.  Ms. Angle should go back to Sunday School.  There are loop holes to this belief.  According to Pat Robertson, the CEO of the 700 Club, the only exception to this New Testament precept is if you are Haitian and your ancestors made a pact with the devil to rid Haiti of French colonial rule.  But as far as we know Mr. Reid is not Haitian (though at press time we understand that Rush Limbaugh is reviewing Reid’s birth certificates) and so would not fall under this rule of being guilty for your ancestors sins.

This e-mail campaign is typical reactionary Rovian electoral tactics.   It is born from the same virulent partisan attacks of Andrew Breitbart that demonstrates no allegiance to truth and less to the guidance of any moral compass in journalistic pursuit.  Again in my estimation a most Un-Christian practice.  Attack an opponent to raise an emotional response using lies and racist symbolism are Tea Party practices that is rife throughout the movement of these little neo-fascist Christian Falangists.

The less said about issues and substantive programs to address the deep rooted problems of our country the better for the Teabaggers and the GOP.  The Party of No got their Brown Shirt Shock Troops motivated around no taxes, no social welfare, more guns and prayers.  It is the sycophantic mantra for a white middle class movement that patronizes class distress and offers no solutions to their pressing economic and cultural constriction.  Nothing about issues. All about raising an emotional response with cliche, platitudes and negative symbolism.

Many of the original western settlers had a hand in the violent displacement that stole land from the Native Americans.  Did Ms. Angle’s ancestors occupy Native American land as they colonized the West?  Did Ms. Angle’s ancestors rightly compensate Native American’s for their land when they took control of the hood?  If Remus Reid horse stealing ways is a valid campaign issue perhaps we should examine the genealogical lines of other westerners to determine how they got control of the land that they currently occupy.

One last point about the e-mail that I found curious was that “Politically” was misspelled in the subject line.  The subject line read: Politicaly correct? I wonder if the ignorance born from people who quote words like “refudiate” are seen as badges of honor.  These badges (kind of like Rush Limbaugh’s imaginary medals of honor that adorn his puffed up chest) are worn only by True American’s who hate pin headed liberal intellectuals who know how or care enough about the quality and “correctness” (there’s that word again) of communication to use a spell checker.  Correctness, accuracy, truth and morals means little to the authors of these e-mails and the Andrew Brietbarts of the world.  Its all about the preservation of their cosmology that protects the fundamental truths of political party, social class an eroding culture of privilege and  a warped theology.

Who ever is sending this stuff out, Joseph Goebbels would be proud of you. Keep repeating the Big Lie. Pretty soon you’ll begin to believe it yourself and swear its true.

  1. My biggest question is why are we, a Christian founded country, hiding behind only two candidates in Nevada? Have the parties hidden their atrocious records that well? Why not give the truth to the citizens? There are other choices? Jesus was an underfunded king that changed the world, but it is all about money now, isn’t it? Sharron and Harry have it and the rest of us don’t. I am Jesse Holland and encourage the media to look beyond the promises of party candidates and replace the office, as it belongs, to the state and the citizen’s therein.

Politics as usual it seems. Both parties have betrayed our country and our financial securities. Currently you have congress representatives of each party talking about our failing country. They, the Republicrats, are truthfully responsible and yet, mysteriously, we are calling this good and acceptable? Stand up, think and place your vote with a true voice of the people by selecting Jesse Holland for United States Senate representing Nevada and the citizens. The media has chosen your candidates for the elections, but we, the people, have suddenly accepted their choices? We talk about taking back our rights and country, but we fail to do much about it? Do the right thing and elect Jesse Holland who is easily found online! Even the polls are purchasable. If you leave out the voice of the people, you end up with a bought poll. Maybe your parents were right by saying don’t believe everything you read.

  2. We are honored to have a senatorial candidate from Nevada visit and take the time to comment on Risk Rap.

As a seemingly candidate of Fundamentalist Christian values do you think Nevada should continue to license “sin” industries like legalized gambling and prostitution?

Do you believe that the USA should continue to prosecute the war in Afghanistan and Iraq?

Do you believe that the Federal Government should guarantee universal health care to all citizens?

Do you believe that religious freedom should be protected for all religions?

Do you believe that all citizens should have equal rights that include the right to marry?

Thanks again for visiting our blog.

  3. Health Care Reform?

Those powers not explicitly granted to the Federal government are reserved to the States and the people, as authorized in our Constitution. Although a ‘Health Care Reform bill’ was magically passed using bribery and corruption and was signed into law, that law does not stand in alignment with the Constitution. The bill can not be financially supported nor can it be administered without collapsing the very country it was created within. I would support any repeal of this unconstitutional bill. Reformation should be supported by interstate policy programs, as law directs, within the States. Our government database could allow a potentially new consumer (of medical need) to view statistical data of any given doctors, to include cost, success rates, follow-up charges, follow-up visits and associated medication costs for any procedure. Competitive pricing and consumer options would drive down costs and weed the medical garden from overpriced medical practices (one of many possibilities.) There is no legal standing for our national government entity to force citizens to purchase a product, or pay fines and/or go to jail.

    Fair and Equal Treatment?

I am a conventional man without party affiliation and without loyalty to a higher political assignment. I stand firm in my loyalty and honesty to represent the best interest of the State of Nevada and its citizenry. All citizens should adhere to the laws that are constitutionally binding and not against the very nature of God. I believe in freedom “of” religion and not freedom “from” religion. In consideration of these thoughts, the President and all members of both chambers of congress are citizens of this country and should not receive any ‘get out of jail free’ cards nor be above the laws they enact or have been written on the books if these laws stand in loyalty to the Constitution and the nature of God. I would gladly and publically take an oath to be subject equally under the law.

  4. Our 2 current wars?

If you mean Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, which includes Operation Enduring Freedom-Horn of Africa, Operation Enduring Freedom-Philippines, Operation Enduring Freedom-Afghanistan, Operation Enduring Freedom-Trans Sahara, and the continued support of the United Nations stabilization missions in Haiti, I think we are undiplomatically stuck in the sand, so to speak, without design and soundness. I am a direct and thoughtful man who appreciates the awesome power that our nation possesses. I am befuddled by our willingness to prolong involvement, at tax payer’s expense, rather than quickly squashing our enemy. We are a caring and loving country that should intercede if necessary, to extinguish unnecessary ethnic, cultural, racial and tribal brutality, then remove ourselves and our toys from the country without prolonged suckling. We should be preaching from the high peaks across the world of the successes of ‘Constitutional Republicanism’ before we lose ours to ‘mobocracy.’ We should simply travel to the country of turmoil, quickly solve the issue at hand and then depart.

  5. Legalities

Any law issued that is contrary to the nature of God is faulted. The starting blocks upon which laws should be built it inherit in the United States Constitution. In simplicity of words, I stand against homosexuality and any special rights granted them beyond citizens’ rights. I stand strongly for one man/one woman marriage, gun rights for law abiding citizens and freedom of religion. I oppose abortions for convenience and federal control of private enterprise, including health care, which removes the power of the States and the power of the people granted by the Constitution. I support entrepreneurship, free enterprise, minimized taxes and minimized government and sovereignty of, and for, the United States. I oppose hidden taxes, cloaked by words such as global warming or climate change, cap and trade, public option, affirmative action, gay rights and pro choice. In opposition to candidates who primarily represent a party and lastly represent the people, my affiliation and loyalty is with the citizens of Nevada and the United States.

The constant propaganda heard that only a Democrat or Republican can represent the state and its citizenry is merely trickery of the party system. The party system’s misinformation and party lines are myths that are being fed to the public like sweet candy devoured by little children. Please stand for solid representation and stick with hope in our state’s and country’s future.

“Statesmen, my dear Sir, may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is Religion and Morality alone, which can establish the Principles upon which Freedom can securely stand.” John Adams, June 1776

  6. The clear function of a Senator is to support the will of the state (Nevada in this case) in the United States bi-cameral congress.

The 1st chamber of congress supports the will of the people and the 2nd chamber of congress supports the will of the state. If they align, we, as a nation, establish laws that are directed from “we the people.” Laws are concluded from the people up and not from the government down as we see in this day and age. Although I have opinions and beliefs, my job function would be the ‘will of the state of Nevada’ and only the ‘will of Nevada’. I believe we would not be walking on the edge of failure as a country if each elected official understood honest job functions. If the people and the state are not aligned with the views of other states, we can voice our direct and honest assessment in the bi-cameral congress.

Opinions and beliefs are free to all. Expression of beliefs and opinions are free to all. Sin is an evil word to many and a fact from God’s word (the BIBLE) to others. I am born-again and adhere to the way prescribed. HIS opinion of all things is factual in my life. If people are dissatisfied with TV programming, they can turn it off. If TV programmers notice relaxed viewing, the programs will change. I do not participate in the “sin-State” activities as many do not. I do not and cannot encourage participation, but my job function as a United States Senator, would be to forward the opinion of the state. The people within the boarders can, as law clearly allows, amend activities that are destructive in nature. People have more power than our government allows them to see… People are our government.

As a citizen of the state, I can voice my opinion if favor of state actions and laws. As a senator, I can only voice the will of the state legislative body.

  7. Dear Mr. Holland,

Thank you for your clear and concise response to my questions.

Though I do not agree with your political sentiments and platform I respect your right to fully express them and admire your participation in the political process.

As chance would have it, I am reading St. Augustine’s City of God for my next Risk Rap post. As you know St. Augustine’s work was the ideological/theological basis for the institution of Christianity as the state religion of the Roman Empire. Rome was soon thereafter sacked by the Visigoths ushering in a thousand year period we call “The Dark Ages”. St. Augustine’s City of God became the ideological handbook for the Christian Theocracies that ruled the scattered principalities of the The Holy Roman Empire and Constantinople for the next 1200 years. It was not until the “Age of Enlightenment” that civil society recognized the burden theocracies impose and moved toward a secular governance model. The creation of the USA emerged from this period of enlightenment making our country the first secular democratic republic since the short lived Athenian democracy of 500 BC.

I still believe the founders of our great republic got it right by insisting that secular democracies insure the greatest protection of liberty for the greatest number of citizens.

I wish you and the citizens of Nevada well in the senatorial election.

    Godspeed Mr. Holland
